Hamilton's position at the western end of Lake Ontario and the base of the Niagara Escarpment creates variable weather patterns, with winter temperatures dropping below -15C and heavy lake-effect snowfall on the mountain.
Hamilton's older neighbourhoods in the lower city contain many Victorian and Edwardian homes with original single-pane windows, while mountain homes from the 1950s-70s have aging double-pane units. Both benefit enormously from modern triple-pane replacements that address the city's cold winters and variable escarpment weather.
