Alliston is a historic community in the Town of New Tecumseth, known as the birthplace of Sir Frederick Banting, co-discoverer of insulin. The town features a traditional downtown along Victoria Street, established residential neighbourhoods, and newer developments driven by the Honda manufacturing plant nearby.
Alliston's position in the Nottawasaga River valley of southern Simcoe County brings cold continental winters with heavy snowfall and temperatures that frequently drop below -25C during January cold snaps.
Alliston's older downtown properties and post-war homes have windows that struggle against Simcoe County's severe winters. Even newer homes near the Honda plant benefit from upgraded glazing. Triple-pane windows with enhanced Low-E coatings are particularly valuable in this climate for reducing heating costs.
the Banting Homestead and the Nottawasaga Inn
Our older home near downtown Alliston was always cold in winter. Panes installed triple-pane windows throughout and the improvement is dramatic. The Banting town winters are harsh but our home stays warm and our heating bills have dropped. — Christine B., Victoria Village
