Double Slider Windows

Angled exterior view of a black double slider window, rendered from the Panes 3D configurator

Double slider windows have two sashes that move horizontally within the frame. Open either side for ventilation without an outward swing. Choose your custom size, finish and glass, or select the double slider tilt model if you want tilt-in cleaning.

Double slider vs. single slider

Both sashes move on a double slider. A single slider has one operating sash and one fixed section. Both styles keep their moving sash within the frame, which can suit openings beside walkways or patios. The sashes overlap when opened, so the clear opening is smaller than the overall window width.

Double slider vs. double-pane glass

These names describe different features. Double slider refers to the two moving sashes; double-pane refers to two layers of glass in an insulated glass unit. Choose the operating style first, then compare the glazing packages and whole-window ratings offered for that configuration.

Choose the cleaning model deliberately

Panes offers a separate double slider tilt model. Select that model in the pricing tool if tilt-in access is part of your plan. Confirm the operating and cleaning instructions for your chosen window, and check that interior furniture and blinds leave space for the sashes.

Can both sides of a double slider window open?

Yes. Both sashes can slide horizontally, allowing ventilation from either side. Because they share the frame and overlap, two moving sashes do not create an opening equal to the full frame width.

Does every double slider tilt inward?

No. Choose the double slider tilt model for tilt-in cleaning. The standard double slider and the tilt model are separate choices in the Panes window configurator.

How do I price a custom double slider?

Use the design and pricing tool to enter the size and choose the available finish, glass and other options. Check the measuring method for your installation, and confirm final order dimensions before purchasing. Send photos and measurements if you need help with the opening.

Can I use double sliders for replacement or new construction?

Yes. For replacement, have your installer assess the existing frame and confirm an insert or full-frame approach. For new construction, coordinate the rough opening, flange and flashing. Select the nailing-flange option to match the installation plan; frame dimensions and rough-opening dimensions are different.

Are 48, 60 and 72 inches the only widths available?

No. The 48 × 36, 60 × 36 and 72 × 36 inch frames on this page are price-comparison examples. Enter your own frame dimensions in the designer to check the sizes supported for the selected standard or tilt model. These dimensions are not the glass size or clear opening.

Should I choose a double slider or an end-vent slider?

A double slider has two sliding sashes with a meeting rail between them. An end-vent slider has a fixed centre section and an operating sash at each end. Compare the section proportions, sightlines and usable openings for the room; the complete frame width is not the ventilation opening width.

Match the model to the opening

Both sashes slide horizontally within the frame, making this style useful where an outward swing would obstruct a path. Confirm frame dimensions and the required clear opening. Choose the separate double slider tilt model if you want tilt-in cleaning; that feature is not included on every double slider.

Compare glass for your climate

For Midwest and Northeast projects, compare double-pane and triple-pane packages using the whole-window U-factor and SHGC for the selected configuration. Lower U-factor means less heat transfer; SHGC describes solar heat gain. Sun exposure, shading and local requirements matter too. Confirm the applicable ratings and any certification for your final size and glass package.

Review the complete order

Your configured price depends on the size, glass, finish and selected options. Review quantity, taxes, freight and any order-level charges separately, and confirm final dimensions before purchasing. Panes supplies custom windows across the continental US; arrange installation with your contractor. Confirm freight access and delivery timing before scheduling the work.

Double-slider window prices by size

Compare three widths at the same 36-inch frame height. Both sashes slide horizontally. Choose the standard lift-out model or the separate tilt model, then compare the same finish, glass and flange across all three sizes.

Compare standard and tilt double sliders

These 60 × 40 inch configurations both have two horizontally moving sashes. Choose the separate tilt model if inward sash access for cleaning is part of your plan. Opening both sashes does not create a full-width clear opening.

Separate operation from glass

Double slider means two moving sashes. Double pane means two glass layers. You choose the operating model and the glass package separately.

Allow room for cleaning

The tilt model needs clear space inside to support and tilt the sashes. Check the selected model’s instructions and the position of blinds, counters and furniture.

Included in these examples: Each example has white exterior and interior, a regular screen, no grilles and no nailing flange. Brickmould and interior jamb extensions are excluded. Prices are for one complete configured window; tax, delivery and installation are separate.

White/white and black exterior/white interior are available for these styles. Open a configuration to choose a finish or the version with a nailing flange. Confirm the installation method before choosing the flange; custom dimensions and options change the price.

Estimated production is 15–20 business days, followed by freight transit. For US projects, arrange measurement and installation with your contractor. Confirm freight charges, unloading access and delivery timing for your address.

  1. Define each opening

Record frame width and height, standard or tilt model, interior and exterior finish, glass and installation flange together.

  2. Review before production

Match every opening to the approved configuration and itemized price. Confirm the whole-window rating for the selected frame and glass combination.

  3. Plan the arrival

Allow 15–20 business days for window production, then freight transit. Arrange measurement and installation with your contractor; confirm your delivery address, freight charges and receiving access.

U-factor
Heat transfer through the complete window. Lower values indicate better insulation. U.S. values use Btu/(h·ft²·°F); metric equivalents use W/(m²·K).
SHGC
Solar heat gain coefficient, from 0 to 1. Lower values admit less solar heat.
VT
Visible transmittance, from 0 to 1. Higher values admit more visible light.

These reference configurations have no grilles. Each row preserves the NFRC manufacturer code for its frame, glass and gas combination. Select the matching series and glass package, and confirm the CPD number and label for your order. Different glass, grilles, frame systems and joined assemblies can have different ratings.

For Midwest and Northeast projects, compare heat transfer, winter sunlight and summer exposure together. A lower U-factor indicates less heat transfer. A lower SHGC admits less solar heat; a higher SHGC admits more. VT describes visible light transmission. Orientation, shading and local code affect the choice. NFRC ratings alone do not establish ENERGY STAR eligibility.
